The Role and the Company:

Mayco/ABC Ready Mix Concrete operations and Victoria Materials Depot aggregates operations are a division of Lehigh Hanson.

Reporting to the Vice President & General Manager, BC Materials, this position is responsible for the management of the Victoria and Mayco / ABC ready mix concrete operations and the Victoria Materials Depot aggregates operations.

The primary responsibilities of this role are the oversight of planning, sales, operations, human resources, budgets, business targets, quality control and major customer account relationships.

What you will get to do

  • Proactively manage safety and health initiatives to continuously improve the company’s performance and promote the highest level of safety

  • P&L ownership of entire operation within Vancouver Island market

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and industry stakeholders in the market that will assist in recognizing and adapting the changing customer needs and emerging market trends

  • Manage capital and fixed asset programs and set strategies that leverage the efficient use of those assets

  • Identify capital projects, oversee the development of AFEs and management of approved projects

  • Provide leadership and direction in the effective recruiting, training, and development of staff

  • Effectively participate in cross business teams and other initiatives that contribute to the achievement of the overall Canada Region goals

  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and manage day to day labour relations

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Group guidelines, completion of required training, and monitoring compliance

  • Maintain relationships with the local community, industry organizations and regulatory bodies

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Post-secondary degree combined with 7-10 years’ experience in a management role

  • Self-motivated and Energetic, Proven leadership experience with the ability to think strategically

  • Knowledge of concrete products, manufacturing processes, quality control and equipment

  • Demonstrated competence in the areas of financial management, performance management, problem-solving and decision-making

  • Proficient in customer management

  • Demonstrated accountability for employee safety, health and environment management programs

  • Proficient computer skills and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Knowledge in mining and processing of aggregates would be an asset

  • Multi-site experience

Work Environment

Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
