The ideal candidate will have 5 years’ experience of on-site/field safety experience with a strong background in heavy manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, building materials, or construction industry. The role supports all four key business lines in south-western British Columbia: Aggregate Mining & Distribution; Cement Production & Distribution; Cement Pipe Manufacture; and Ready Mix Concrete. The Field Safety Coordinator is a key member of the Canada Region Health and Safety team, reporting to the Area Health and Safety Manager for South West BC.
Support site teams in implementing/ continually improving Safety and Health processes including regulatory compliance programs and the Lehigh Hanson Safety/Health Management System
Provide interpretation and planning support for current and emerging safety regulatory requirements (provincial, federal, and local legislation); and for corporate guidelines.
Ensure business line teams achieve compliance requirements through sustainable organizational processes including managing training; regular inspection; preventive maintenance; hygiene monitoring; safe work practices.
Perform/participate in site inspections; ergonomics coaching; job observations; investigations; emergency response planning and exercises.
Coach/lead Task Hazard Analyses; Lockout Tagout, Work at Height, or other safe work plan development.
Support site teams in development of appropriate corrective action strategies and follow through.
Be a resource for Joint Health and Safety Committees
Liaise with Worksafe BC and other regulator Resource personnel and Inspectors.
Monitor and proactively report facility Safety and Health performance.
50-75% local travel within assigned area.
5% travel outside assigned area, generally, for corporate and team meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of on-site/field relevant safety experience or equivalent combination
Post-secondary training in OHS; NCSO program or other certification
Holds or currently pursuing CRSP designation
Experience with disability claims management, including workers compensation, and return-to-work programs
Experience and competence in developing and implementing safety procedures / programs
Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels from operational level employees to senior leadership
Competent in coaching and teaching both technical and conceptual information
Familiar with and competent in researching/ interpreting federal, provincial, and local Health and Safety regulations, standards and guidance affecting the assigned facilities
Competent in the Microsoft Suite software
