Do you pride yourself in being a jack-of-all trades? The Utility Person position is critical to support plant needs by ensuring a safe and productive work environment. Primary duties include, but not limited to performing a variety of unskilled tasks or labor operations throughout the facility. Duties may include cleaning, washing, sweeping, shoveling, loading/unloading, and assisting in maintenance work, operating machinery such as skid steer or backhoe in the performance of clean up or general maintenance work. May perform other work as assigned.

Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Utility Person.



Reporting to the production supervisor, with day-to-day reporting to the lead batchman on duty, this position is responsible for maintaining the yard and managing incoming raw material inventories cleaning and cooling functions for RMC.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day plant clean-up and maintenance which includes: manual labor, heavy lifting (regularly lift and/or move 50 to 75 pounds), shoveling, lubrication of plant components and minor plant adjustments.

  • Physical Requirements: sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, bending (bending at the waist, lifting above the waist and lifting below the waist), kneeling, reaching, grasping (use of both hands), squatting, repetitive motions, manipulative finger movements with both hands, use of wrists (flexing or rotating with both wrists), use of both feet, use of arms above and below shoulder, work extended periods of time in same position, perform duties in all climates i.e. weather, extreme temperatures, tolerate heights, work in confined spaces, capable of wearing respiratory and other personal protective equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation, regulations, and company policies and procedures. Report any unsafe condition, accidents or incidents to supervisor immediately.

  • Maintain work area in a clean, organized, and safe manner.

  • Work with plant management to identify problems and potential problems that need to be addressed.

  • Perform plant inspections and complete inspection documentation.

  • The adding of admix and ice manually to mixers

  • Help ensure quality product and timely deliveries to our customers with focus on company’s performance objectives and targets.

  • Order products and supplies for ready mix operation (i.e. cement, aggregates, admixtures, color, fiber, etc.).

  • Focus on customer satisfaction, and public relations when fulfilling job duties.

  • Will be required to work some Saturdays.

  • Assist in maintenance work.

  • Daily cleaning and sanitizing trucks in order to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

  • Prior experience in the ready mix concrete business or related industry preferred, but not required.

  • Proficient with computer and software databases, MS Office (Excel, Essbase, Powerpoint, etc.), Experience in resolving problems and dealing with difficult situations.

  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions relating to maintenance and products

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Regular and on-time attendance.

  • Demonstrated ability to be self directed, with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Ensures compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and with company policies and procedures.

This position will be based out of Litchfield Park and Mesa.
