HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO

As a Buyer for Lehigh Hanson, you will work with a high functioning purchasing team at a dynamic cement plant to ensure parts, deliveries, and supplies are coordinated and arrive on time. You will work cross-functionally with the departments to ensure we focus on budgets and maximizing savings annually while still maintaining required levels of inventory. This position reports to the Purchasing Manager.

The position will reside in Mason City, IA.

  • Initiates, maintain and tracks Purchase Orders for supplies and services.

  • Obtains and analyzes quotes from suppliers based on price/quality characteristics.

  • Assists with the negotiation of contracts.

  • Follows company policies and ensures compliance at the local level.

  • Assists with resolving invoice discrepancies with vendors.

  • Process receivers against purchases orders. Stock items in stores and must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Maintains insurance documentation from vendors.

  • Reviews opportunities for new supply sources and suitability of materials.

  • Follows up on outstanding purchase orders. Expedites the purchase and delivery of materials, supplies or parts as needed.

  • Coordinates purchasing activities with other departments to maintain inventory for materials and supplies at efficient levels.

  • Assists with storeroom management. Participates in physical inventory of spare parts to include cycle counting, posting, and reconciliation.

  • Oversee proper storage and identification (tagging).

  • Ensure proper and timely charge out of spare parts and keep accurate records.

  • Make necessary inventory adjustments.

  • Obtains return authorizations for parts as required. Prepares bills of lading and packing lists for outbound shipments.

  • Assist with the monthly month-end closing (goods receipts entered timely and accruals to accounting).

  • Completes and submits the daily production report and provide back-up to production backflushing.

  • Assists with the yearly physical inventory.

  • Monitors the physical inventories of purchased raw materials and WIP (order surveys when necessary).

  • Other job-related duties and administrative functions may be included.

  • Complete all assigned work in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory requirements (i.e., MSHA, OHSA, DOT, DOL, etc.), including all safety programs.

  • Must maintain awareness of surroundings at all times and perform all work in a safe and productive manner.

HERE’S WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Two (2) years of experience in purchasing and/or materials management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Degree in Business or Accounting strongly preferred.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and vendors in a manner that result in the cooperation of all parties.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage the company’s inventory and acquisition dollars in a manner that results in the lowest total cost.

  • Experience with supervising warehouse and purchasing personnel.

  • Knowledge and experience with SAP desired as well as PC based applications.

  • Minimal travel required.
