The Transportation Safety & Health Manager role is based in Katy(Houston), TX and reports directly to the Region Director, Health & Safety - South Region.

The Transportation Safety & Health Manager will be responsible for leadership and implementation of the organization’s Safety and Health (S&H) programs and initiatives for Campbell Concrete & Materials Operations in Houston area. This role will manage and coordinate S&H and Transportation Safety (including DOT) activities to ensure compliance with S&H laws and regulations; Implement, monitor and maintain S&H programs and facilitate corrective measures as necessary; Provide guidance to management on regulatory compliance, training, safety investigations, worker's compensation, and policy questions; and position the company as a leader in Safety & Health.

What you’ll get to do

  • Implement and support all S&H programs, including Training, Inspections/Audits, Industrial Hygiene, implementation of Company S&H Policies, Accident Investigation/Reporting and Regulatory Compliance programs.

  • Manage Transportation Safety of Ready-Mix Drivers to ensure a team approach is used to effectively monitor and supervise all DOT activities.

  • Provide on-going S&H support and continually raise the level of safety awareness of plant management, employees, and contractors.

  • Lead local rollout of “Leading with Safety” Initiatives.

  • Monitor and proactively report S&H performance.

  • Work as a liaison with local, State and Federal regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, DOT etc.).

  • Manage Workers’ Compensation and General Liability claims.

  • Continuous interpretation and compliance planning for current and emerging regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with Area Environmental Managers to ensure a team approach is used to effectively monitor all S&H activities.

  • Other duties and tasks, including travel, as necessary and/or assigned to effectively carry out job responsibilities and maximize the effectiveness of this position.

  • 50% - 75% local travel within the assigned area.

  • 5% travel outside assigned area.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in related field AND a minimum of 10 years of relevant safety experience, preferably in Ready Mix Concrete, heavy manufacturing, or construction environment.

  • Hands-on experience in Transportation Safety (including DOT compliance) is REQUIRED.

  • Expert-level working knowledge of OSHA rules and requirements.

  • Experience and competence in developing and implementing all aspects of an industry leading Safety and Health Program.

  • Strong management, communication and influencing skills from Senior Management to plant level employees.

  • Competent in coaching, teaching, and presenting.

  • Ability to form, facilitate and maintain internal and cross functional teams and relationships.

  • Competent in federal, state, and local S&H regulations and the regulatory agencies governing the assigned facilities.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
