Reporting to the Vice President/General Manager, this position manages aggregate plants and Ready Mix Concrete locations in central New York. This is an ideal position for a plant or operations manager looking for the next career move.

This position is responsible for diverse operations and has a lot to offer the potential candidate in terms of challenges, experience and potential for future growth.

This position will reside in the Syracuse NY area.

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO:

  • Effectively lead the management team and supporting functions to accomplish organizational objectives regarding safety, environment, profit, productivity, efficiencies, production costs and quality. This will require frequent travel between the sites and time spent in the plants.

  • Analyze plant and personnel performance, evaluating modifications, capital improvements and changes in practice or behavior to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. This position requires strong analytical skills and the successful candidate must be able to make solid business decisions based on quantitative analysis.

  • Coordinate with supporting Maintenance Manager to ensure that solid fleet and maintenance plans are in place and effectively executed at each operation.

  • Prepare and implement annual operating and capital budgets as well as capital spending requests.

  • Drive and promote a culture of safety and promote a safe work environment. Partner with the local Environmental, Health, and Safety Managers to maintain a safe working environment meeting all internal standards and external regulations,ensure environmental regulations are followed and sustainability practices are in place. Success is building and sustaining a culture of safety as a core value within all activities.

  • Identify and develop talented individuals from all levels in order to build and strengthen the organization’s team over time. Evaluate performance of subordinates and provide coaching enabling achievement of their full potential. Staff development skills are a key requirement.

  • Develop close working relationships with peers (Sales Manager, Quality Control Manager and Continuous Improvement Manager) to create maximum value for the business.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the operations.

  • Build relationships within the local communities surrounding the operations.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering or Business or equivalent work experience. Graduate degree a plus.

  • Five years of aggregates operations management. Experience with ready mix and/or hot mix asphalt operations is strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience managing multiple locations preferred.

  • Basic understanding of geology and various mining methods.

  • Solid knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing aggregate operations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of operational and sales and marketing issues affecting aggregate operations.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of aggregate quality control parameters. RMC QC knowledge is a plus.

  • Understanding of or experience in managing in union environments.

  • Ability to demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking and work with the management team to identify worthwhile business opportunities.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Intermediate level computer skills including MS Office products.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget preparation and financial statements.

  • Solid communication skills, oral and written.

  • Proven leadership skills managing multiple and diverse teams.

  • Highly motivated and driven to succeed.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively respond to urgent situations.

  • Complies with all federal, state and local guidelines.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to the sites.
