Do you see yourself as a leader who can motivate a group to want to success! Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Area Environmental Manager . This position maintains compliance with all environmental and land use laws, regulations, and permits applicable to the Lehigh Hanson operations in their area of responsibility in the Region. This is done by identifying requirements to be performed by Lehigh Hanson and developing strategies to meet these requirements. The strategies must utilize available human, technical, and physical resources, both internal and external to fully accomplish these requirements. Success is building and sustaining a culture of safety and environmental stewardship as core values within all activities.

  • Review current and proposed permits, laws, and regulations to analyze their impacts on the assigned Lehigh Hanson facilities and effectively communicate those impacts to management

  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of Federal, state, and local environmental and land use laws and regulations

  • Prepare and submit documents such as environmental and land use permit applications, plans, and reports by the required due dates enabling the continued operation of Lehigh Hanson facilities

  • Prepare and submit comments concerning environmental and land use laws and regulations

  • Manage environmental and legal consultants performing work for Lehigh Hanson

  • Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet environmental requirements

  • Assist in implementation of policies and procedures to ensure practices are in compliance with the applicable environmental and land use permits, laws, and regulations

  • Investigate and resolve compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, customers, government regulatory agencies and/or the public

  • Perform due diligence investigations

  • Communicate with company personnel, regulators and consultants on all environmental issues

  • Act as company advocate for environmental issues

  • Populate, update, and maintain the environmental task management computer system, Envirolis for assigned facilities

  • Regularly evaluate Lehigh Hanson environmental compliance at assigned facilities and effectively communicate issues of non-compliance to management

  • Maintain reports, records and production documentation

  • Train other staff in the company on relevant environmental issues and regulations, including related company policies

  • Successfully complete assigned training provided by Lehigh Hanson

  • Ensures compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations, and with company policies and procedures

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of corporate guidelines, conducting training and monitoring compliance

This position will be based at Jamesville, NY.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related environmental, scientific, or engineering discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years environmental experience in the aggregate, RMC, mining, or similar industry

  • Ability to independently audit and inspect industrial operations, identifying compliant or non-compliant environmental issues, and effectively communicate those findings to Lehigh Hanson management.

  • Ability to independently develop and implement effective environmental compliance strategies and management systems including management plans.

  • Ability to effectively communicate required compliance activities to Lehigh Hanson employees who are tasked with performing them

  • Working knowledge of all environmental laws and regulations affecting Lehigh Hanson operations in the assigned area of responsibility including, aggregate production, ready mix concrete manufacturing, asphalt manufacturing, and related operations

  • Experience and demonstrated ability managing a multi-media environmental program, including air and water quality, hazardous waste and materials, biological species issues, mining reclamation, soil and water remediation, and others

  • Ability to prepare environmental permit applications and reports for submittal to external parties including regulatory agencies

  • Ability to communicate with internal and external parties in a collaborative, positive manner, representing Lehigh Hanson’s environmental interests

  • Competence with computing software

  • Must have and maintain a Driver’s License valid in the state(s) of the assigned facilities
