Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Payroll Tax Manager who will be based in our corporate office in Irving, Texas. The Payroll Tax Manager will serve as the internal business owner of U.S. and Canadian Payroll Taxes.

This position will work closely with several cross-functional business partners to ensure payroll taxes are reported timely and accurately in the most efficient way possible for 13,000 employees in multiple states and provinces. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on strategic manager and team player with a “can-do” attitude and demonstrated ability to identify and drive process improvement opportunities within the context of constant change.

What you’ll get to do:

As a key member of our HR shared services team, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Managing, reviewing and auditing U.S. and Canadian payroll tax compliance

  • Supervising two payroll tax analysts

  • Leading and facilitating cross-functional teams for the U.S. and Canada Year-end Projects

  • Providing outstanding customer service to employees and business partners

  • Creating and maintaining documentation for new and changing processes and backing up payroll tax analysts, when needed.

  • Continually developing, maintaining and applying internal control standards

  • Managing payroll tax and workers compensation premium audits.

  • Developing and implementing best practices for payroll tax payments and reporting.

  • Maintaining and exemplifying a culture of openness and integrity

Who we are looking for:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent

  • APA Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred

  • 8+ years of payroll tax experience, ideally in large, U.S. multi-state and Canadian companies. Expert Canadian tax knowledge required.

  • Manager who can collaborate, promote professional growth and inspire others.

  • Solid working knowledge of payroll operations of an organization.

  • Experience with systems integrations and acquisitions.

  • Advanced Excel skills required; experience with ERP systems (JDE a plus)

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • A business-partnering approach, with high standards for integrity and ethics.

  • Ability to thrive in a changing environment with a “roll-up sleeves” approach to accomplish all necessary tasks

  • Attention to detail – demonstrated ability to consistently deliver upon a high level of accuracy to ensure risk is minimized at all times.

  • Ability to balance strong customer service needs against business objectives.

  • Excellent project management skills to establish and meet deadlines.
