Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Director of Cement Operations. This position will be part of the Company’s South Region and will reside at our regional office in Birmingham, AL.

Reporting to the President, South Region, the Director of Cement Operations - South Region is responsible for overseeing the operational performance of manufacturing operations in Alabama and Florida, as well as driving expansion of production and shipping capabilities across the region.

The incumbent will be a member of the South Region management team, lead the cement operations team and will work closely with Heidelberg Technology Center (HTC) staff.

What you will do:

  • Plan, develop, and implement strategies to optimize cement operations and plant utilization.

  • Provide leadership in support of safe, sustainable, cost effective business operations,

  • Continuously improve operational performance with respect to production, maintenance, product quality, health and safety, environmental matters, employee relations, labor relations, asset utilization, cost control, inventory management, sustainability and community relations.

  • Ensure that the cement plant businesses maximize their financial results and achieve the objectives set forth in the operating plan through improvement of profit margins, working capital, reduction of costs, and effective asset management.

  • Administer, implement and monitor performance of budgetary goals for the plants while reviewing weekly all financial data for each location, including capital project analysis necessary for the improvement of the operations.

  • Develop and manage the capital investment plan for the plants including the AFE process and project planning and oversight.

  • Partner with Cement Sales & Logistics and other company functions and business units to enhance the Company market position.

  • Evaluate, coach, and develop managerial potential and plan for succession.

  • Promote operational excellence through best practices, measuring and benchmarking performance, technical improvement opportunities, and KPI measurement.

  • Provide value-driven leadership in sustaining corporate culture – customer focus, workplace safety, employee relations, cost controls, price leadership, environmental compliance, community responsibility, and industry involvement.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry organizations and government agencies to stay abreast with political and technological changes.

  • Identify when specialized skills/resources are needed to capably assess unique activities (e.g. system risks, health and safety risks, etc.).

Who we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of industry experience, preferable in a managerial role with progressive experience in sales, operations and/or engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Effective leadership skills that will help drive employee engagement at every level of the business.

  • Prior managerial experience in a union/non-union environment a must.

  • Broad knowledge of the cement and construction materials industry.

  • Extensive experience in the cement business with proven success in cost management, sales & marketing, and operations.

  • Financial experience in areas of P&L, budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, impact on volume, price and cost, preparation of AFE’s and post investment analysis of projects, with significant capital project management and resource development experience.

  • Working knowledge of applicable environmental, safety, and laborlaws and regulations.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

  • General understanding of business functions.

  • Solid knowledge of the organization, the competences, and products of Lehigh Hanson and HeidelbergCement Group.
