The Plant Mechanic works at the aggregate mining plant and reports to the Plant Supervisor. This position primarily carries out maintenance duties on the processing equipment while the plant is down. This involves various maintenance associated with processing equipment; feeders, conveyors, screens, crushers, pumps, sand screws, log washers, chutes, etc. Examples would be changing conveyor bearings on head or tail shafts, training belts, changing cone liners, replacing screen bearings, rebuilding pumps, relining chutes and changing screen cloth. Ideal candidate can perform this type of maintenance independently with quality and in a reasonable time frame.
It is not likely the plant would be operating while this position is on duty, but if it is is operating, the Plant Mechanic supports the Plant Operator while the plant is in operation. This could involve cleanup, lubrication and assisting in the operation of the aggregate plant. The Plant Mechanic will also be required to operate some mobile equipment, such as cleanup loaders, water trucks, man-lifts, etc. At times, he/she will be required to operate larger mobile equipment such as loaders and haul trucks to feed materials to the plant and carry products away.
Successful candidate must be willing to work modified swing/graveyard shift of an approximate schedule of 7pm to 5am, subject to change due to business needs.
Conduct general routine maintenance on the aggregates plant
Welding and fabricating
Perform daily housekeeping
Assist Plant Operator in the operation of the plant
Operating small mobile equipment to support the plant
Operating larger mobile equipment to move materials
Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
Mechanical knowledge is a must
Ability to cut and weld is a must
Familiarity with aggregates plant operations and equipment is a plus
A valid driver’s license
Ability to lift 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs frequently
Willingness and ability to work a modified swing/graveyard shift (approximate hours 7pm to 5am - subject to change) and OT as needed
Self-starter and a team player
Ability to operate larger mobile equipment is a plus
